Judge Rules in Favor of Senecas

A judge has rueld in favor of the Seneca Nation to continue the injunction that prevents the state from collecting taxes on cigarettes sold on Indian land.

On Sunday, the Senecas rallied against the state's efforts to tax wholesalers who sell cigarettes to Seneca retailers. They say it would hurt their economy and violate treaties.

A spokesman for Governor David Paterson says the governor wants to have negotiations with the different tribes in New York state in a manner that's mutually respectful.
