Meeting Concerning Catskills Casino

The Seneca Nation of Indians and its Seneca Catskills Gaming Corp. met today in Albany with aides to Governor David Paterson over its plan to build a casino in the Catskills.

The Seneca Nation and the Michigan company, Rotate Black, announced January 3 that they have plans to build a casino in the Catskills that they estimate will produce $160 million to the state and local governments each year, which is more than than what's currently paid to the state by the nation's three existing casinos in Salamanca, Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

Any agreement to allow the Senecas to operate in the Catskills would require a new state law and federal approval.
