'Affairs of the Art' at Pitt-Bradford

More than 110 pieces of art work created by University of Pittsburgh at Bradford students will be showcased in the annual art exhibition beginning March 20.

“Affairs of the Art” will feature pieces made by 65 students through April 15 in the KOA Art Gallery in Blaisdell Hall. A reception will take place at noon March 20 in the KOA Speer Electronics Lobby. The show, which is free and open to the public, is part of the University’s Spectrum Series.

“Visitors will be overwhelmed by the diverse art mediums that students have explored in their artworks as well as the amount of student artwork displayed in this year’s exhibition,” said Kong Ho, associate professor of art and director of the interdisciplinary art program. “Once again, Affairs of the Art offers visitors the opportunity to leisurely savor and enjoy a broad spectrum of artistic, creative and visually exciting works of art.”

The work spans paintings, drawings, mixed media, graphic designs, linoleum prints, pottery, ceramic sculptures, bamboo baskets, Japanese calligraphy, sumi-e paintings, as well as a mural created in Blaisdell Hall last summer.

Students made the pieces as part of art courses during the spring, summer and fall 2008 and spring 2009 terms.

Post cards and posters depicting the mural will be for sale in The Panther Shop in the Frame-Westerberg Commons. Proceeds benefit the interdisciplinary art program and student art club activities.

The art gallery is open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 to 6 p.m. Friday. The gallery is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
