Last year the Kane Area Relay for Life raised more than $62K through online fundraising and hundreds of mini-events held throughout the year raising money a dime and dollar at a time. Some teams join up with area product associates for special events where proceeds are shared with the co-host team. Others hold bake sales and yard sales. Others recycle bottles and cans, have collection containers or dime jars. There are spaghetti dinners, hoagie sales, 50-50s, raffles, candy sales, perennial sale and much more.

The Kane Area Relay army for 2009 has expanded to 18 teams with an estimated 15 individuals per team yielding a Kane Area Relay volunteer army of 270 fundraisers.

With three months of fundraising left, watch for some great opportunities to participate and support cancer research and patient care services.

Forty percent of the money raised goes to national cancer research, the other sixty percent stays at the McKean County Unit of the American Cancer Society for cancer patient needs in our community and throughout the County.

2010 will be the 10th anniversary for the Kane Area Relay with all teams participating in collecting recipes for a cookbook that will be available for 2009 holiday sales. If you have a "tried and true" family favorite you would like to submit "in honor" or "in memory" of a loved one, please e-mail them Shirley Morgan kightmo@msn.com or send to Morgan at 6 Park Place, Kane, PA 16735. The cookbook team will be making their final recipe selections in early May.

The 24-hour, 9th Annual Relay culmination will take place July 10-11, 2009 at the Kane Area High School Track starting and ending at noon. The Relay parade is scheduled for 6 p.m. on July 9 in uptown Kane. Any one or any group wanting to help or participate in the parade may call Shirley Morgan at 837-9696.
