Onuffer Seeking Second Term

Bradford City Councilman Bob Onuffer has announced he is seeking a second term in office. He will be on the Democratic ballot in the May primary. He has served on Council since January 2006. During this time he served as Director of Public Works for two years. He worked closely with Gary Alcock and the streets and refuse employees and found areas where he could help to improve their working conditions and schedules. He really enjoyed the hands on experience of working with the guys.

In January, 2008, he was appointed to Director of Accounts and Finance, and currently holds that position. He was also on the 2005 ballot for Democratic candidate for Mayor of the City of Bradford. He was defeated then by current Mayor Tom Riel, and really enjoyed the opportunity to run for Mayor. Since then he has been working closely with Tom and the rest of council. It was a learning experience for him in this new position and worked closely with everyone in the City Hall building. One of the necessary improvement to our City Hall was the installing a new computer system in all the offices. It has not been completed as of this date, but it was long overdue to bring our offices up to the today’s technology. All the employees have been working diligently to see this completed.

He also took over as Chairman of the safety committee that previous Councilman Dan Costello had started to develop, and is hoping to see even more safety awareness as the program continues to grow. He also has been active in the Elm Street/Project Pride program. He enjoys working with Lisa Campogiani and the rest of the teams. He is currently chairman of the Image and Identity team. He has also been active in previous years on the annual City clean-up programs.

If reelected, he looks to the future of the City finances and the many economic woes we are all facing as a challenge and is ready to work with everyone in the City to improve the efficiency of our City services that we provide. He believes that his ability to work with people from all walks of life has been very helpful during his term of office and has been very pleased with the performance of all the City employees that he has worked with in the past. He feels that they are our greatest asset and the ones that will be able to help the future of our City more than someone who occupies an upper-level position, elected or appointed.

His community involvement includes being active in his local church, Sawyer Evangelical, which he has served as Bible study teacher, and currently as assistant teacher and serves on the landscaping team and helps with building projects. He also serves on the music ministry team as musician and soloist. He has worked with Christmas In April and is currently working with Habitat for Humanity and serving on the site location committee. He is currently serving as board member for the local Youth for Christ organization and hope to see this group continue to grow. He is currently a member of the local Kiwanis Club, and enjoys the fellowship of that great group of people.

He was born in Bradford, and lived here most of his life. His wife Nancy, who is retired from Case Cutlery, keeps active with the family as they have five children and nine grandchildren and being involved in their activities is very important to both of them. They also believe that giving a helping hand to your neighbors is something that we need to see more of during these hard economic times we are experiencing.

As in the past, he makes only one promise, and that is to try to answer anyone who comes to him with a problem or concern and get back to them as soon as possible. That is what being a public servant is all about.
