Meeting on SEIS for ANF Drilling

A supplemental environmental impact statement on oil and gas drilling in the Allegheny National Forest will focus on six significant issues.

Forest Supervisor Leanne Marten along with district rangers Tony Scardina and Rob Fallon talked about the issues during a public meeting Monday.

The issues are water quality, visual resources, hours of operation, drilling in the Marcellus Shale, restoration and reclamation and fragmentation that affects habitat.

Congressman Glenn Thompson attended the meeting and said there is a need to operate wells on the forest because it's an economic engine for the area.

The supplemental environmental impact statement is expect to be finished by the end of the year.

Another meeting will be held at 7 o'clock tonight in Pitt-Bradford's Rice Auditorium in Fisher Hall.
