Music on Main Street

The Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce’s new committee made the purchase of an amplifier from funds generated by the former Downtown Merchants.

Over the years, the Downtown Merchants sold Zippo lighters and most recently sponsored the Art Show during past Summerfest events to fundraise. “Merchants and businesses on Main Street were surveyed by Anita Dolan, Main Street Manager, to determine their interest in having music played over the speaker system that was in place. The comments reflected an overwhelming agreement that music enhanced the Main Street experience,” stated Diane Sheeley, executive director of the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce.

In order to make that happen, the amplifier in the previous electronic configuration needed replaced. The Chamber’s Downtown Partnership committee was able to provide that piece.

In January, 2009, the Bradford Area Business Group (Downtown Merchants organization) reorganized as a committee within the Chamber. The committee adopted the name, Downtown Partnership, reflecting a mission of advocacy for community development, strengthening the economic restructuring and development of the downtown, and promoting the district.

The Downtown Partnership is currently working with the Main Street Program, the Business Resource Center, Pitt-Bradford, and the Entrepreneurs program. In addition to the purchase of the amplifier in 2009, the Downtown Partnership will sponsor the Art Show during Summer Daze and the horse drawn carriage rides during the Christmas Holiday event.

Downtown Partnership meetings are open to all businesses or individuals interested in this initiative regardless of Chamber membership status. For more information, call 814-368-7115.
