Woman Jailed for Elder Abuse
A woman who had been living in Wilcox was sentenced to four months in prison for abusing her elderly father in Michigan.
60-year-old Carol Ann Maneke was the guardian for her 87-year-old father, Max Canfield. But Canfield's granddaughter, Melissa Goodnoe, says Maneke wouldn't let other family members see him and she kept him locked up like an animal. Goodnoe called police and social workers, who found Canfield lying on a soiled mattress with adult diapers, trash and animal feces surroudning him.
Goodnoe tells WESB and The HERO that police said this is the worst case they'd ever seen.
Canfield, a World War II veteran with two Purple Hearts, eight Bronze Stars and other medals, died a week after he was rescued.
Charges were filed three years ago, but prosecution was delayed because Maneke was hiding out in Pennsylvania. State police caught up with her in March.
