Plant Fire in Clarendon

Route 6 is closed in both directions from Route 59 in Mead Township to Route 666 in Sheffield Township because of a fire at Berenfield Container in Clarendon.

The fire was reported at about 10 a.m.. Witnesses tell us there have been several explosions and the roof of the building has collapsed.

People living close to the Erie Street plant have been evacuated as a precaution.

Fire companies in Warren, McKean and Clarion counties in Pennsylvania and Chautauqua County in New York were called in.

PennDOT expects both lanes of Route 6 to reopen at around 6 p.m.

Berenfield makes metal shipping drums and fiber drums. There is also a paint shop at the Clarendon location.
