Poll: PA Voters Not Happy with Rendell; Don't Want Tax Hike

Governor Ed Rendell's approval rating is the lowest it's been since he took office, according to a statewide Quinnipiac University poll, and voters aren't too happy with the Legislature either.

Rendell has a 39 percent approval rating. Voters who were polled also see him as most responsible for the state's budget problem.

Voters also reject Rendell's proposal to temporarily raise the personal income tax to balance the budget. Only one-third of the people polled say the income tax increase is a good idea.

The Legislature isn't doing that much better in poll numbers.

Only 27 percent of the state's voters approve of the job the Legislature is doing. That's barely higher than the Legislature's 26 percent approval rating that the same pollster found following the 2005 legislative pay raise debacle.

Nearly 1,200 Pennsylvania voters were polled by phone from July 14 through Sunday.
