Potter County Schools Get Money

Five Potter County school districts will receive a total of $615,007 from the US Department of Education to develop new physical education programs.

The grant will provide 20 physical education teachers, coaches, and school nurses with scientifically based, professional development programs, according to Scott Graham, superintendent of the Northern Potter School District, which was the lead school in the grant application.

Graham says they will be able to design individual physical fitness and wellness plans for obese/overweight students; increase student enjoyment of physical education; and provide the exercise equipment for a wide range of cardio-vascular and fitness programs.

The grant calls for the involvement of the Potter County Education Council, Alfred University Department of School Psychology, and the National Archery in the Schools program.

Congressman Glenn Thompson says more than 2,600 students will benefit from the program.
