Vote Expected on Budget Plan

In day 20 without a state budget, the Senate gave preliminary approval to a plan responding to a bill passed Friday by the House.

Senate President Pro Tem Joe Scarnati says the $27.1 billion spending plan "does exactly what … Senate Republicans have been saying can be done."

He says it's balanced now, will be balanced in the out years and spends less than last year. It also does not include a tax increase.

The Senate is expected to vote on final passage of the measure later today. Due to Senate rules, the budget vote can't take place before 6:10 p.m.
