'Beat the Peak' Advisory
The Tri-County Rural Electric Cooperative operations center expects a higher-than-usual demand for electricy today because of the hot weather. They are asking people to "beat the peak" by limiting energy usage in any way possible between the hours of 3 and 7 p.m. today.
During "normal" demand periods power costs only pennies per kilowatt hour. But during "peak" demand periods, the cooperative can pay up to one dollar per kilowatt hour and, in turn, must pass the higher costs on to members, which may have an impact on future rates.
