Info for Sliver Creek Flood Victims

MAYVILLE, NY -- Providing as much information as possible to those who desperately need it was the driving force behind a new information booklet handed out in Silver Creek Thursday night.

A flood informational meeting was held at the Silver Creek High School Auditorium for residents affected by the August 10th storms that devastated parts of that Village. Close to 100 people came out for the gathering.

Chautauqua County Executive Gregory J. Edwards said the "Assistance for Silver Creek Flood Victims" booklet was compiled by members of a wide array of Human Service Agencies, including the Chautauqua County Department of Social Services and Office for the Aging.

Edwards personally thanked David Watson from the County's Print Shop for putting the booklet together.

"This booklet is an excellent, straight forward explanation of what we have been offering and will continue to offer," Edwards said. "I want to thank those who helped create this handout and for having it available for the flood victims who came out Thursday night."

The torrential rains and ensuing floods that hit Chautauqua County on Monday, August 10th caused millions of dollars in damage, and forced dozens of people from their homes and businesses.

"We need to continue providing information and assistance to everyone who has been affected by this weather event," Edwards said. "The generous residents of Western New York also need to continue contributing their volunteer time and finances to help those who have lost everything because of this flood."

Edwards said that copies of the "Assistance for Silver Creek Flood Victims" booklet are still available, and can be picked up at the Flood Disaster Command Center, located at the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, 135 Central Avenue, Silver Creek.
