Two Hurt in Route 5 Crash

Two people were hurt when a passenger vehicle and a semi collided Sunday afternoon on Route 5 near Lake Erie State Park.

Sheriff's deputies say 33-year-old Brian Cassick was trying to find the entrance to the park and, when he did, he quickly slowed down and tried to make a last second left turn.

Paul Briggs of Ashville attempted to steer the semi around Cassick's vehicle, but they collided.

A passenger in Cassick's vehicle hit her head on the window and was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital. Cassick was also taken to the hospital for treatment of a shoulder injury.

Cassick and Briggs were both cited for traffic violations.
