UPB One of Best in Northeast

For the sixth consecutive year, The Princeton Review has recognized the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford as one of the best schools in the Northeast.
“This sixth consecutive recognition as one of the region’s best is yet additional evidence of our strength and prominence when compared to other colleges,” said Dr. Livingston Alexander, Pitt-Bradford president. “This is truly a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff and the support we receive from surrounding communities.”
The education services company selected Pitt-Bradford as one of 218 institutions it profiles in its “Best in the Northeast” section on its PrincetonReview.com feature “2010 Best Colleges by Region.”
The Princeton Review also profiles Pitt-Bradford in its book, “The Best Northeastern Colleges: 2010 Edition,” which goes on sale Aug. 4.
The 640 colleges named “regional bests” represent about 25 percent of the nation’s 2,500 four-year colleges.
The Princeton Review survey asks students to rate their own schools on several issues – from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food – and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students and their campus life. Actual comments from surveyed students pepper each Princeton Review college profile on its website and in the book.
“My advisor has gone above the call of duty to work with me and my schedule to accomplish my goals,” one student said.
Another one said that Pitt-Bradford “puts forth a serious effort to offer a diverse and eclectic course catalogue,” including “a lot of fun winter sport classes you can take for credit.”
The profile also includes a “Survey Says …” list that reports topics about which students surveyed at the school were in highest agreement. Among those in the “Survey Says” list for Pitt-Bradford were “athletic facilities are great,” “students are friendly,” “campus feels safe” and “student government is popular.”
Says Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s vice president of publishing, “We chose Pitt-Bradford and the other terrific schools we recommended as our ‘regional best’ colleges primarily for their excellent academic programs.
“We choose the schools based on institutional data we collect from several hundred schools in each region, our visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of independent and high school-based college advisors whose recommendations we invite.
“We also take into account what each school’s customers – their students – report to us about their campus experiences on our 80-question survey.”
Pitt-Bradford has been recognized by The Princeton Review five times previously. In 2005, 2006 and 2009, it was named one of the best colleges in the Northeast; in 2008, it was named one of the best schools in the Eastern region; and in 2004, the university was named one of the best 115 colleges in the Mid-Atlantic.
The Princeton Review is an online resource for prospective college students, providing them information about colleges and universities throughout the United States. Additionally, the site offers prospective students advice on financial aid and tips on taking the SATs.
