Williams Wants Case Moved to Buffalo

Nushawn Williams wants his civil confinement case moved out of Chautauqua County, and into Buffalo.

Williams was in state Supreme Court Monday for the change of venue motion, and to say he wants his case to be heard by a jury. However, he doesn't think a Chautauqua County jury would be objective.

Williams has finished serving a 12-year sentence for knowingly infecting more than a dozen Chautauqua County residents with HIV in the late 1990s, but the state wants to keep him in civil confinement because prosecutors say he is still a threat to society.

The court reserved decision on the matter, adjourning the change of venue motion until April 1 to give the attorney general’s office a chance to respond.

The trial is scheduled to start May 9.
