New Market Opening in Foster Township

By SANDRA RHODES
A new business is about to spring up in Foster Township just in time for Mother's Day.

Jim and Carolyn Newhouse are set to bring "fruit, flowers and flavors" with the Foster Brook Market, located on East Main Street where Firestone Tire & Service Center used to be.

Carolyn Newhouse explained the market will include produce, a garden center and an old-fashioned ice cream parlor.

"We are pushing really hard to be open by Mother's Day," she said, adding that for Mother's Day that plan is if shoppers bring in their mother to buy flowers, mom will be treated to a free ice cream cone, choosing from the more than 30 flavors of Hershey's ice cream offered.

The market will also have home-grown produce, an organic food section, high quality flowers and "everything you need to meet your gardening needs."

For the industrious Bradford couple, the idea of opening a market in this location seemed like a no-brainer. The couple already owns SuperUser Technology and brought the Old Post Office building back to life.

"We have looked at the building, all of us have, and thought what a great location. It's a shame it's empty," Newhouse said. "We were drawn to that building. It's really suited for anything."

Newhouse said a market like this meets the needs of the community by bringing high quality items at competitive prices. And the thought of adding one more business to their repertoire does not intimidate the couple.

"We've been really blessed with success at SuperUser Technologies and fortunate enough to have people step up into leadership roles for us."

Newhouse said this has allowed she and her husband to stay local even though much of their business is out of town.

"We want to be more a part of the community and this affords us the opportunity."

Newhouse also said that they have been energized by the project and people's response and interest in it. One couple stopped to see what was happening at that location to settle a bet.

"We have had all kinds of fun. It's been a blast."

Newhouse lauded the cooperation with the Foster Township officials and Centro Properties Group, which owned the building and the Bradford Mall.

"They have been incredibly responsive and wonderful to work with."

The Newhouses have also used local contractors and have even turned the renovation of the 6,786 square foot building into a family affair.

Mark Smith and his son have been working on the building as well as the Newhouse's own son, Garrett.

"That's what Bradford is all about - carrying on a tradition. Carry on values, respect the community and work hard."

The market, which has the motto of "Fruit, Flowers and Flavors," is set to open before Mother's Day. The market, owned by Jim and Carolyn Newhouse, will be on East Main Street in the building once occupied by the Firestone Tire & Service Center.
