Pitt-Bradford to Host
Architectural Thesis by Dominic Yik

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Spectrum visual arts series will host an art exhibition titled “Collective Living: Architectural Thesis by Dominic Yik” beginning Oct. 28 and running through Dec. 2.

The exhibition will be in the KOA Art Gallery in Blaisdell Hall. On the opening day of the event, there will be a gallery talk from noon until 12:30 p.m. in the KOA Speer Electronics Lobby, followed by an opening reception from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Yik’s exhibition sees an architectural plan as an interval of time noted by sketches, writings and recorded facts, rather than a static set of final drawings. It gives viewers a look into the making of a project and allows them to make judgments as the project develops.”

“Envisioning a landscape increasingly taken over by water, this thesis project strives to introduce a prototypical high-density living complex for its minimal ecological footprint, re-establishing railway transport and flood rescue capabilities,” Yik said.

“The repeating and underused corridors are configured into a vertical pattern of Venice fields and streets. It is hoped that such an arrangement could mitigate the feeling of confinement and celebrate the art of collective living at higher grounds.”

The art gallery is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday. It is closed Saturdays and Sundays.
