Fatal Crash Near Charlotte
UPDATE: The man who died is 38-year-old Timothy Welch of Cassadaga, New York. The occupants of the tractor-trailer were Frank and Bridgette Childs of Flint, Michigan.
An SUV driver is dead following a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer this morning on Route 60 in the Town of Charlotte that caused both vehicles to burst into flames.
Sheriff’s deputies say the SUV was southbound at 8 a.m. when it crossed into the northbound lane and hit the tractor-trailer.
They did not release the name of the SUV driver, but say the person died at the scene. Two occupants of the tractor-trailer were taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk for treatment of smoke inhalation.
A several-mile stretch of Route 60 was closed due to the accident. Accident reconstruction and cleanup is expected to last for several more hours.
