Multi-Vehicle Pileup on I-80 Monday
UPDATE: Police now say most of the people who were hurt suffered minor injuries. Also, they say the total number of vehicles involved in the crash is 45.
Several people are hospitalized after a pileup involving 6 tractor-trailers and 15 other vehicles on Interstate 80 about three miles from DuBois Monday afternoon.
Police say 17 people were taken to the hospital after the accident; at least two are in critical condition, while others are in serious condition. The injured people were taken from the accident scene in buses. A tanker carrying liquid nitrogen was involved in the crash, but none of it spilled.
That part of I-80 was closed for eight hours while crews cleared the wreckage. Jefferson County was under a winter weather advisory at the time, and police say a snow squall hit the area just before the pileup.
