Theft Suspect Picked Up for Pot Possession
An Allegany man who police were looking for in connection to a theft at a Country Fair store in Olean is now facing drug charges.
Sheriff’s deputies say they were helping Olean Police with the Country Fair incident when they saw the suspect vehicle on Five Mile Road, and stopped 20-year-old Andrew Nelson.
During the traffic stop deputies smelled freshly burned marijuana, searched the vehicle and found a small quantity of the drug.
Nelson is scheduled to appear in Allegany Town Court later this month on a charge of unlawful possession of marijuana. Deputies turned him over to Olean Police so they could continue their investigation.
