Man Shoots Heroin, Takes Cops on Chase

A Collins, New York, man took state police on a chase in Chautauqua County Saturday night.

Troopers say at around 8:15 they saw an SUV parked in the county department of transportation salt barn on County Route 68 near Cherry Creek and, when he went to see why it was there, the driver took off.

Police attempted to get 31-year-old Donald Pfaffenbach to pull over, but he continued to drive at speeds of up to 90 mph for about 9 miles. The chase lasted 12 minutes.

Pfaffenbach eventually pulled over on Center Road and took off on foot into a brush area. When police caught up with him he said he needed medical attention because he injected heroin at the salt barn.

He was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital and, after being released, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, fleeing from a police officer, resisting arrested and a number of other offenses.

Pfaffenbach is jailed on $10,000 cash bail.
