Dog Dies in Morning Fire

A dog died in a fire this morning in Kiantone that was caused by a faulty power strip.

The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team says the blaze started at just before 9:30 a.m. in the basement of the house on Warren Jamestown Boulevard.

One woman was sleeping in the house when the fire started, but was awakened by smoke detectors and was able to escape without injury.

Seven fire departments battled the blaze.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
