PA Highway Deaths Up in 2012

1,310 people – including 8 in McKean County – were killed in crashes on Pennsylvania roads in 2012.

It's the third lowest number of highway deaths on record, but still 24 more than in 2011, according to information released today by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Four fatalities happened in Elk County last year, while two each were reported in Cameron and Potter counties. Warren and Forest counties, which are reported together, had eight.

Transportation Secretary Barry Schoch said, "While highway fatalities increased in 2012, we're encouraged that, historically, deaths on our roadways are trending downward."
