Pipe Bomb Found in Elk County
Someone found a pipe bomb in a remote area of Elk County this morning.
State police say a passerby found the device at 8:35 this morning in a remote, wooded area off Boone Mountain Road in Fox Township. They say it was a metal pipe, about 4 inches long and ¾ of an inch in diameter with threaded endcaps.
The state police Hazardous Device and Explosives section dismantled the device. Because it’s almost entirely intact, the components will be forensically tested to potentially identify the person or people who put it together.
Police say this appears to be an isolated incident and is not believed to be associated with any known crime trend.
