Matt Gabler Working with NATO

State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) is attending an overseas NATO training exercise this month as a part of his duties as a captain and medical logistics officer with the 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Members of the division staff are taking part in a multi-national exercise in France to strengthen ties and work with military units from other NATO allied nations.

“The 28th Infantry Division was specially selected to attend this training on behalf of our country,” Gabler said. “I am honored to have this opportunity to continue my service by participating in this exercise and working alongside our foreign counterparts and NATO allies.”

This multi-national effort in crisis communications is the first large-scale exercise the U.S. Army has conducted with France since they rejoined NATO in 2009. In these exercises, U.S. troops will work alongside other NATO allies to plan, visualize and focus on a simulated enemy’s actions while implementing the use of combined ground forces in different terrains.

“Anyone who watches the national news understands the need to have a well-trained military and good working relationship with our allies,” Gabler said. “Events in the news everyday underscore why we must always be prepared to defend our allies and protect U.S. interests abroad.”

Gabler left for his overseas training on Thursday, May 8, and will return on Sunday, May 25. In his absence, Gabler’s legislative offices will continue to handle constituent service requests for the residents of the 75th District.
