Kane Crash Causes Blown Transformers

A Kane man who tried to out-run police ended up hitting a utility pole and knocking out power to part of the borough.

Police say at about 9 o’clock Sunday night 21-year-old Hunter Smith was near the intersection of Route 6 and Wetmore Road driving his pickup truck at an extremely high rate of speed. Police started to chase him, but Smith turned down another road. That’s when the pickup went out of control and hit the pole, which blew that transformer and others. But Smith kept going anyway, until he got to the Zook Motors parking lot, where he was taken into custody.

Smith is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and numerous traffic violations. He’s in McKean County Jail on $10,000 bail.
