Millions in Silver, Gold in Thruway Crash

Two million dollars’ worth of gold and silver was being hauled in a truck that crashed on the Thruway in Cheektowaga this morning.

The driver is a government contractor and told police about his cargo. After verifying the driver’s credentials troopers arranged for an armored vehicle to get the gold and silver off the U-Haul.

The cargo consisted of large mechanical filter like cores used in military aircraft.

The driver wasn’t hurt. Police are continuing their investigation.
