Tractor-Trailer, Dump Truck Collide

A tractor-trailer and a dump truck collided Thursday afternoon, sending both drivers to ECMC with serious injuries.

State police say the tractor-trailer driven by 57-year-old James Cornwall of Machias was towing an empty tanker when the dump truck, driven by 78-year-old Curtis Wolfer of Delevan, didn’t stop at a stop sign and traveled directly into the path of the tractor-trailer, which went into a ditch, rupturing a fuel tank and spilling several gallons of fuel. The Arcade Fire Department and EMS, as well as the state DEC Spill Response Team contained the fuel to the ditch.

Cornwall sustained a broken leg while Wolfer suffered broken ribs, abrasions and minor cuts.

Charges are pending further investigation.
