Peterson Retiring After 42 Years of Service

Bradford City Clerk John Peterson is retiring after 42 years of service to the city. He was a firefighter before taking the job as city clerk 14 years ago. A date hasn’t been set yet for his retirement, but it will be sometime after the city hires a city manager to take his place. He explained that the hiring of a city manager does not mean the form of city government is changing, but that council can create the position of city manager that will do basically what the city clerk does now. During last night’s meeting, city council OK’d a resolution to advertise for the position. Peterson said a job description will be posted on the city’s website soon. Peterson said the event he remembers most in the past 42 years is the Dresser Home fire in the mid-1980s. He said the fire department got calls for media outlets all over the country including states as far away as California, Texas and Florida. Egg-stravaganza at Callahan Park

Bradford City Firefighters Local 655 held their annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday morning in Callahan Park. The Kentucky Derby is called "The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports." Check out our video to see why annual event could be called "The Fastest Two Minutes in Easter Egg Hunting." These young ladies were among the hundreds hunting eggs. Still on the Scene

Bradford City and Bradford Township firefighters are still at the scene of a fire across the street from School Street Elementary School. Smoke was still coming from the buildng at the corner of School and North Center streets as of 1:30 p.m. Flames were coming from the building when firefighters got the call at about 10:55 a.m. We have unconfirmed reports that the fire started in the kitchen of one of the apartments. Bradford Township firefighters protect the house next door to the fire site. Former Bradford City Fire Chief Bill McCormack and former city councilman Tom Shay were on the scene, as was Mayor Tom Riel. Bradford City Police and Special Police controlled traffic.
