Edward D. Lineman, 80, of 86 Oxford Street, went on to Glory, Wednesday, July 23, 2014, in his residence. Born February 25, 1934, in Bradford he was a son of the late Melvin and Mae (Whitling) Lineman. On December 21, 1957 at the Church of the Nazarene he married Ruthanne (Burritt) Lineman who survives. Mr. Lineman was a 1952 graduate of Bradford HIgh School, and attended Jamestown Business College. On February 19, 1953 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on February 18, 1957. He was employed as a Window Clerk at the United States Postal Service for 35 years. He was a lifetime member of First Church of the Nazarene where he served on the Church Board, and financial secretary for many years and Eldred Koinonia Fellowship. WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) is working to advance a cure for Alzheimer’s through a bill that would direct proceeds from postage stamp sales to fund research on the cruel illness. The bipartisan legislation would instruct the United States Postal Service to issue and sell an Alzheimer's Disease Research Semi-Postal Stamp. Proceeds from the sale of these stamps would be transferred to the National Institutes of Health to fund Alzheimer’s research. Sen. Toomey joins bill sponsor Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and fellow cosponsors Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). A Bradford man has pleaded guilty in federal to court to the theft of mail. 60-year-old Dean Meacham took a Wal-Mart gift card, a $20 bill and a $5 bill from cards that were being mailed last July. Meacham faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, or both when he’s sentenced on August 14. The U.S. Postal Service will delay closing or consolidating any of its mail processing facilities until May 15. The Postal Service announced the decision on its website this afternoon, citing a request made by multiple U.S. senators. Derrick City won’t be losing its Post Office after all. Darlene Lyons is a retired postmaster from East Smethport and she said she got the good news about Derrick City this morning. She tells WESB and The Hero that, as a retired postmaster, she is allowed to work to keep other post offices open if they’re in jeopardy of closing. And, she says, that’s exactly what she’s been doing for the past two weeks. A meeting had been scheduled for tonight at the Model T Inn to discuss the possible closing of the post office. That meeting has been cancelled, but that doesn’t mean people can’t go to the Model T to celebrate.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today sent a letter to Patrick Donahoe, Postmaster General of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), pushing for more transparency in the process of considering post offices in Pennsylvania for closure. Earlier this week, the USPS announced it was considering closing 203 post offices in Pennsylvania. “Unfortunately, many of my constituents feel as if the USPS has repeatedly dismissed public opinion associated with these closures,” wrote Senator Casey. “While I understand that the USPS needs to restructure, when citizens of Pennsylvania ask reasonable questions regarding this process, it is imperative that the USPS respond to these inquiries in a thorough manner.” Senator Casey requested that the USPS submit a plan to ensure that public input is given the weight it deserves as facilities are considered for closure. Several Post Offices in this area are among those that may be closed this year. They include Turtlepoint, Hazel Hurst, James City, Crosby, Driftwood and Sinnamahoning. The Post Office plans to close more than 3,000 offices, mostly in rural areas, in an effort to save millions of dollars.
