St. Bonaventure University will observe Holocaust Remembrance Day with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the University Chapel, Doyle Hall. The public is invited. Guest speaker at the Holocaust Remembrance Service will be Dr. Robert Reginio, an associate professor of English at Alfred University. Reginio received his doctorate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, under the direction of Holocaust scholar James E. Young and has published and presented research on representations of the Holocaust in film and literature. He teaches a popular course on the Holocaust and Literature at Alfred and is working with a student there on a documentary film, incorporating the audio testimony of a Holocaust survivor from Mielec, Poland, and photographs of pre-war Jewish life salvaged and originating from the town. Temple Beth El in Bradford will hold services for the Jewish High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Services will be conducted by Rabbi Susan Stone of Cleveland, Ohio, with music provided by Charles Stone. Evening services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at the temple, which is located at 144 Clarence St. in Bradford. Morning services will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 5 at the temple, followed by taschlich in Callahan Park and the dedication of a Holocaust memorial at the Hebrew Cemetery in Bradford. Yom Kippur services will begin with Kol Nidre at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 and continue with morning services at 10 a.m. Sept. 14 at the temple. BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Education Club will present a live videoconference next week with Eva Schloss, holocaust survivor and author. The videoconference will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 4 in Room 162, Swarts Hall. The event is free, and the public is invited. Refreshments will be served. A childhood friend of the famous diarist Anne Frank, Schloss survived two years in hiding and eight months in the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp before being liberated by Russian soldiers. Following the war, she resumed her education in Amsterdam and studied art history at Amsterdam University before moving to London, where she trained to be a professional photographer and worked for five years. In 1952, she married Zvi Schloss, and her mother married Otto Frank, the widowed father of Anne Frank. Schloss has lived most of her life in London, spending 25 years running an antiques shop.
