A 35-year-old woman is accused of hurting a 6-year-old boy who was trying to leave her house while she and a man were arguing. Police say Nicole Harvey was arguing with a man inside her Driftwood home last Tuesday night when the boy got scared and tried to leave. Police say she repeatedly grabbed him to keep him from leaving the house, and caused injuries when she did. Harvey was charged with simple assault and sent to jail lieu of $2,500 cash bail. An elk caused an accident in Driftwood Monday evening. Police say 26-year-old Joshua Boone of Port Royal was on Route 120 at about 6:30 p.m. and, when he went around a curve, saw an elk standing in the road. He put on his brakes and swerved but, because of the wet road from a recent rain, the back of the car slid, and the car went into a ditch and hit a culvert. A Driftwood woman has been charged for stealing $7,500 from Grove Township in Cameron County. 47-year-old Maryfrances Gibson is charged with a felony count of failure to make required disposition of funds for writing a check for her personal use on the township’s account back on June 30. Gibson is free on $10,000 unsecured bail and her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Police are investigating another burglary at Fulton’s General Store in Driftwood. Sometime between 6:30 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday someone broke in through the front door and stole $366 in cash and change, a container of Wild Bill’s Beef Jerky, numerous folding knives, assorted flavor of Gatorade, Fulton General Store lighters and about 40 packs of Marlboro and USA Gold cigarettes. Police are investigating a burglary at Fulton’s General Store in Driftwood. Sometime between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Friday someone broke in through the front door, went to the back of the service count and took about $375 from the cash register. The burglar also took about 10 packs of cigarettes, then left through the front door. The wildfire in Cameron County is under control, but DCNR firefighters are still on the scene between Driftwood and Sinnemahoning. Emporium-based state police say Route 120 has re-opened but will sporadically close while trees are being cut down. Motorists should be prepared for delays. The fire is under control “but definitely still burning,” a police dispatcher told WESB and The HERO this afternoon. Wildfire fighting specialists from Bradford Township were on the scene Wednesday, but their detail has been cancelled for tonight. Firefighters from Cameron, Potter, Elk, Clinton and Clearfield counties were on the scene last night as well. On his Facebook page this morning State Representative Marty Causer wrote, “A sincere thank you to all of the dedicated volunteer firefighters who came together to fight the forest fire in Cameron County -- your hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated.” Causer is a former vice president of McKean County’s EMS council. State Police are investigating the death of a Driftwood man. They say the 36-year-old died in his home on Barr Lane in Benezette Township Sunday night or early this morning. Police did not provide any further information. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

An Erie man suffered minor injuries in an accident Sunday night on Route 120 in Driftwood. State police say an SUV driven by 57-year-old Paul Pitonyak Jr. went out of control while rounding a curve, hit an embankment and was disabled. Pitonyak was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

Someone broke into a Driftwood house over the weekend and stole some tobacco products and ravioli. State police say the break-in happened between 8 o’clock Friday morning and 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon at Brian Gausman’s house, and the burglar took a cigarette rolling machine, a bag of mint-flavored tobacco, a bag of regular cigarette tobacco, a box of filter cigarette tubes, a small first aid kit and a 4-pack of Chef Boyardee beef ravioli. The value of the stolen items is about $57.

Two people were hurt when a deer ran in front of their motorcycle Friday night on Route 120 about a mile east of Driftwood. State Police say 52-year-old Stephen Brunner of St. Marys was traveling west when the deer ran in front of his bike and he couldn’t keep from hitting the animal, causing the motorcycle to fall onto its side. Brunner and his passenger, 50-year-old Deborah Brunner, also of St. Marys, were both taken by ambulance to Elk Regional Health Center for treatment of moderate injuries.

Someone pried open a door at the Hill Top Lodge in Shippen Township and stole 3 42” Vizio flat screen TVs, a Stihl chainsaw and a Stihl weedeater. Estimated value of the stolen items is $2,500. ~~ Sometime between 1 and 8 p.m. Tuesday someone “deposited miscellaneous plant materials on the victim’s property without permission.” 90-year-old Joseph Gehringer owns the property on CCC Memorial Highway in Driftwood. ~~ A purse containing drugs and drug paraphernalia was found at Ramsey’s Garage in Emporium. A Driftwood woman suffered major injuries in an accident Friday afternoon on Route 120 in Gibson Township. State Police say 31-year-old Danielle Mason riding her motorcycle and rounding a curve when the bike went out of control, crossed the road and hit a set of guide rails. Mason was thrown from the bike, hit the guide rails and landed in a wooded area along the road. She was taken from the scene by Sinnemahoning Ambulance, then taken to Altoona Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
