Foster Township Police Chief Tom Munn says his department has received numerous tips on the suspicious van thats driver has approached at least one girl, but none of them turned out to be the van they’re looking for. Munn does want people to be aware that the van is a conversion van – not a cargo van – and does have windows on the sides. (It’s similar to the van in the picture. This is NOT the actual van they’re looking for.) He says they have taken calls from all over the area and “We absolutely appreciate all the calls we’re receiving. Local police and the Erie Bomb Squad spent several hours in the woods off St. Francis Drive late Saturday night into early Sunday morning dealing with what ended up being a fake explosive device. Foster Township Police Chief Tom Munn say says a person walking in the woods about a quarter of a mile from the WESB studio found the device and called city police at around 10 p.m. They determined it was in the township, and called them. Police sent photos to the bomb squad, who told them to cordon off the area. Once the bomb squad arrived, the X-rayed they device and did not believe it was real. They did blow it up as a precaution, but the device did not contain any explosives. Munn say it was a box with a calculator attached and wires leading into paint cans in the box. But he reiterated there were no explosives in it. “Nothing about it was real,” Munn said. He would like to talk to the person who put it there, though. Sewer and sanitary authority issues were discussed, but shared time with police, emergency management, code enforcement and business development. When asked by resident Bill Hallock how much it would cost to develop property at the Foster Brook intersection, supervisor Dale Phillips said there are no figures from PennDOT but development and occupancy permits depend on use, and how many cars are going in and out. “I believe we’ve got some great potential down there in that area,” Phillips said, adding that he likes to go Applebee’s in Olean on Saturday and “it’s like Bradford day. I know everybody in there.” “Why can’t I know everybody in Applebee’s that’s in Foster Township? Why are we going there instead of them coming here?” he asked rhetorically. Tom Munn is the new chief of the Foster Township Police Department. Supervisors unanimously approved the appointment during their meeting Monday night. The appointment was effective immediately. Munn replaces Jeff Wolbert who retired. His last day was October 20. Supervisor Chris Wolcott said Munn is a hard-working and dedicated police officer and is a great asset to the township. Supervisor Chairman Bob Slike asked township secretary Jennifer Gorrel to send a letter to Wolcott thanking him for his 33 years of service to the township, adding that he was dedicated at the township will miss him. “Amen,” Wolcott added.
