Reasons to be Thankful

Image
Six months ago no one would have been able to tell me I'd be able to come up with anything for this list. I was beyond devastated and depressed and, for the first time in my life, could not see a light at the end of the tunnel. But, day by day, it's getting a little better. I still cry. It still hurts more than I thought was possible. But, I was able to find some things to put on my list. I’m thankful that ~~ our program director has helped me think before I post on Facebook ~~ co-workers bring in cute little treats ( see picture below ) ~~ Scott went to a Bret Michaels concert with me so I can say “Something to Believe In” is much better live and in person ~~ I was blessed with an amazing mother who turned into my best friend ~~ last Thanksgiving I didn’t whine, “I don’t wanna eat Thanksgiving dinner at The Pavilion.” ~~ I have a supportive and strong family and group of friends who helped me get through the last six months ~~ I have awesome cousins ~~ so many people in th...

Big Brothers/Big Sisters Thanks Bowlers

Image
Big Brothers Big Sisters of McKean County would like to thank the businesses and individuals who participated and donated in Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2013. Bowl For Kids’ Sake is our largest annual fundraiser that took place on March 23, 2013 at Byllye Lanes in Bradford. Funds raised will support ongoing professional match support for one on one matches between adult volunteers and youth in need of an additional positive adult role model throughout McKean County. Big Brothers Big Sisters is an evidence-based mentoring program shown to prevent substance abuse and anti-social behavior among youth. Served youth show significant improvements in school attendance, academic performance, involvement with positive school and community activities, self-esteem, interpersonal and problem solving skills, and future planning and goal setting. Served youth are also much more likely to develop friendships with positive peers and have improved relationships with family members. It costs approximately $1,...

Tickets Available for “Grace and Glorie”

Image
Kathy Bryant and Nanci K. Garris will perform the two-woman play “Grace and Glorie” as the opening of Bradford Little Theatre’s 14th season Oct. 8-10 at the auditorium of the First Presbyterian Church, 54 E. Corydon St. Under the direction of Diane Kerner Arnett, the duo will bring to life the funny and poignant friendship between 90-year-old Grace, an independent mountain woman, and 40-something Glorie, a transplanted city slicker with an MBA degree from Harvard. Playwright Tom Zeigler draws the collision between these women’s very different lives with a humorous hand and genuine respect. Grace is determined to face death the way she has lived, while hospice volunteer Glorie is equally determined to show Grace a “better” way. When Glorie first visits the “granny cottage” where Grace is spending her final days, Grace can’t quite understand why the woman is there. She first tells Glorie: “listen, honey, I don’t mean to be undriendly, but whatever it is you’re sellin’, I’m sure I’m was p...

Just Ducky -- Again

Image
"Our" ducks are back. Dan Griffin/Igor tried feeding them some bread to get them to come closer but, for some reason, they didn't want it. My theory is that they knew we had donuts inside and thought we were holding out on them.

Very Cool Weather Video

Dan Griffin pointed me to this time lapse video of the blizzard in Washington, DC. Watch it a few times to see all the things the snow does.

Cruisin' Into Christmas ...

Image
Amber Bacha drove the Zippo Car in the "Cruisin' Into Christmas" parade, followed by Scott Douglas, followed by Dan Griffin driving the WESB/HERO van. Dan was accompanied in the van by the lovely Amanda, along with Eleanor and Mallory. The Christmas House Characters made an appearance in the parade, and they'll be making appearances at their new location this year -- Beacon Light -- during the holiday season. (John Pockey will be on Monday's LiveLine to talk more about that.) The Bradford Alliance Church reminded people about the "reason for the season." Gary Hoy and other members of the Street Dreams Car Club got decked out for the occasion. And, Santa arrived in style before making his way to his headquarters at 25 Main Street.

On a Personal Note ...

My thoughts are with Patti & Frank, and Amanda & Dan --- and family and friends -- as they attend memorial services today.

In Case You Were Wondering ...

For anyone who heard me trying to hold it together while I was passing it to Frank for sports ... watch this first: So, as I was reading, Dan puts a picture of the hamster on the window. I think I held it together pretty well under those circumstances.

The Boss, The Super Bowl and You!

We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to be part of the on-field audience for the show. For more information, go to Super Bowl Cast.com .

You may have heard Dan talking about holiday tipping on WESB this afternoon. Here are some guidelines: Babysitter : One evening's pay, plus a small gift from your child Letter carriers : U.S. government regulations permit carriers to accept gifts worth up to $20 per occasion, not cash For more, go HERE Radio announcers (including news people) will gladly accept money or food.

Fire in the Newsroom (Not Ours)

Radio Booth Engulfed in Flames - Watch more free videos I asked Dan if he would coming running in with a fire extinguisher like the guy in the video did. He said "No." He says he hopes I would go to a commercial, put the fire out myself, then go back on the air. I probably would ... "Right after this, we'll be back with some hot, breaking news ..."

Very HERO-esque.) Sheffield Fort LeBoeuf Iroquois Dan "Igor" Griffin and I (and the lovely Amanda, who took the picture) had a great time broadcasting the Autumn Classic live on 1490 WESB. Can't wait 'til next year!
