A group of rude and unruly people – some from the townships – disrupted Tuesday’s Bradford City Council meeting to the point where Mayor Tom Riel threatened to adjourn the meeting early. While the eight or so were loud enough that council and the media had to ask them to quiet down, the rest of the standing-room-only crowd was polite and respectful. The antics came about when council was asked about several issues including business privilege tax, a proposed storm water fee and the crime rate. Mayoral candidate Paul Berg, who seemed to be making statement rather than asking a question, wanted to know why General Electric (parent company of Dresser’s) does not pay a business privilege tax. A domestic incident spilled into a woman’s workplace when her estranged husband threatened to kill her and three other people. Court papers say Anthony Hornung II went to the woman’s home Thursday night, argued with her, dragged her through the house by her arm and said if he can’t have her no one can. He left the house when her roommates came home, but then texted and called her, leaving threatening messages. Later that night he showed up outside the back of the Bradford Era building, where he was threatening people. He raised a fist to the woman’s boss as if he was going to punch him, and bumped the man’s chest with his repeatedly, while threatening to kill people. When police arrived Hornung ran to Players Bar, but police caught up with him. Hornung is charged with criminal trespass, flight to avoid apprehension, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, simple assault and several summary offenses. The man who firebombed Players Downtown in Bradford has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for violating federal arson laws. 43-year-old Damon Kayes threw a Molotov cocktail at the front door of the bar at around 11:30 p.m. on September 9, 2011, when about 30 people were inside. No one was hurt. US District Judge Sean McLaughlin said Kayes has a serious criminal history involving multiple violent offenses, and that he totally disregarded the serious risk of harm to the bar’s patrons. The Bradford man who firebombed Players bar has pleaded guilty in federal court. Damon Leroy Kayes threw a Molotov cocktail at the front door of the bar on Mechanic Street at around 11:30 p.m. on September 9. About 30 people were in the bar at the time. He faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both when he’s sentenced on January 14.
