Three Dilapidated Buildings Coming Down

Image
By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director Three more dilapidated buildings in Bradford are coming down. City Council on Tuesday accepted quotes to demolish 317 East Main Street, 418 Congress Street and 30 South Kendall Avenue. 6-V Excavation will demolish the last building, clear the property and take the debris to the McKean County Landfill for $8,750. Tom Vickery will handle the other properties for $4,455 and $1,955, respectively. “It’s a good price, too,” said Mayor Tom Riel after council approved the second Vickery resolution. “You couldn’t get them all that cheap.” He explained that the cost of all the demolition will be paid from the city’s Community Development Block Grant Program. Also Tuesday, council heard from Jefferson Street residents concerned about people speeding on their street, and the danger it poses to the children who live there, some of whom have disabilities. Police Chief Chris Lucco said that, because of state law, the speed limit on the street cannot be any low...

Super User Technologies Expanding

By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director A Bradford businesswoman is “aggressively” expanding her business, and creating jobs in the process. Carolyn Boser Newhouse of Super User Technologies will start providing video surveillance and access control services, and asked for a $100,000 Enterprise Zone loan to help with the startup costs. Bradford City Council approved the loan during its meeting Tuesday. The loan has an interest rate of 3 percent for a term of up to 15 years. She told council that many people think her company is an information technology business but it’s actually wired and wireless communications infrastructure. “We put the wire in the wall and the waves in the air,” she said. She said she wants to add a complementary scope of service – a new division for surveillance and access control “which is supposed to be somewhat recession proof.” Newhouse said she expects to create seven new jobs to start with. The second year plan would be to offer monitoring and hosting serv...

More Trash Talk in Foster Township

By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director There was more trash talk at Monday’s Foster Township Supervisors meeting. Residents wanted more details on a plan that was introduced last month about changing the way trash is collected in the township. Last month supervisors voted to start a study to look into collecting its own trash instead of having several haulers do the pickups. Derrick Road resident Ron VanScoter said one of the reasons he’s against the township getting involved is that it would be taking business away from private enterprise. “You have private enterprise that works and they’re doing a good job. If the township collects their own, they’re going to put people out of work,” VanScoter said. “Once the government’s involved, it seems to go out of hand,” he said. Township resident Kira Leck said she hauls her own trash to the landfill, and thinks that people who don’t want to pay for trash collection shouldn’t have to. “I work really hard at lowering my trash output. I recycl...
