UPDATE: 3:30 PM -- Route 59 has re-opened. UPDATE: PennDOT says the road will be closed at least until "early evening." They have posted detours using US Route 6 and Route 321. A tanker carrying diesel fuel crashed on Route 59 just east of Wolf Run Marina this morning. The driver was able to get out safely, with only minor injuries, but the tank is leaking. UPDATE (Friday morning): The fire is being considered suspicious, and Agosti says they are still investigating. City Fire Department Assistant Chief Rich Zmuda tells WESB that firefighters and four state police fire marshals -- three from PA and one from NY -- left the scene of the South Avenue fire at about 9 p.m. The cause is still under investigation and he expects PSP Cpl. Greg Agosti to issue a news release either later tonight or tomorrow. The New York fire marshal was called in because he has a fire-investigating dog whose services were needed. More than 40 firefighters from the city, Bradford Township and Derrick City battled the blaze at 103 South Avenue, starting at about 7:45 a.m. Neighbors heard an explosion shortly before that. The fire spread to 105 South Avenue, where it melted the siding and did other damage. No one was hurt. We'll pass along more information when we get it.

Two men were beaten and robbed early Saturday morning at a campsite in Corydon Township. Police say 27-year-old Paul Eberhard and 26-year-old Jonathan Dudley of Niagara Falls went looking for a cooler that had been stolen from their campsite, and that’s when they were assaulted. The assailants also took a shotgun the victims had with them. Police say the assailants headed toward Bradford. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A pickup truck crash on Route 59 in Corydon Township Thursday morning sent a Warren man to the hospital. Police say 23-year-old Joseph Madigan was about 400 feet west of Klondike Road when the truck went out of control and off the road, where it crossed a driveway, side-swiped a tree, hit numerous small trees, and then a large tree and rolled onto its roof. Madigan said he wasn’t hurt but after being checked by Lafayette Township EMS personnel was taken to Bradford Regional Medical Center because he wasn’t wearing a seat belt, and he may have had a head injury. Madigan was charged with driving on roadways not laned for traffic and cited for not wearing a seat belt. State police were assisted on the scene by Corydon Township Fire & Rescue, Lafayette Township Fire & Rescue, Bradford City Ambulance and Fox and Sons Excavating. Fire destroyed a home in Corydon Township early this morning, and sub-zero temperatures didn’t make battling the blaze any easier. Corydon Township Fire Chief Matt Cobb says the temperature was around 20 below zero when they arrived at the house in the 2400 block of West Washington Street at around 1:30 a.m. He said the temperature made fighting the fire tough, and even caused their trucks to freeze up. Cobb says the people who lived in the house were home, but were able to get out safely. They don’t know what caused the blaze yet. A state police fire marshal will be on the scene this afternoon, but Cobb says they don’t suspect anything suspicious. About 30 firefighters from Corydon and Bradford townships were on the scene until about 10 o’clock this morning. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Caretaker of Riverview-Corydon Cemetery Harry B. Tome, 91, of 16 Yohe Road, Corydon Twp., PA, passed away, peacefully, with his devoted daughter at his side, on Monday, September 9, 2013. Born April 14, 1922 in Corydon he was a son of the late Jay and Bessie (Blair) Tome. He attended schools in Corydon and Kinzua. On November 27, 1942, in Randolph, he married Marion (Freeman) Tome, who died on September 11, 1996. He was a resident of Corydon until 1964 when the Army Corp. of Engineer's made him leave the family farm. He was a supervisor for the Town of Corydon for 17 years and later for 11 years in Corydon Twp. During his working career he operated heavy equipment and was a member of Construction Local 66. He also did logging and for over 40 years was the caretaker and sexton for Riverview-Corydon Cemetery. He was faithfully devoted to his family, work, and friends. Pierre C. Gregg, 66, of Bradford, went to be with our Lord our God on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 18, 1946 in Hallton, PA, the son of the late Carl E. and Elise Van de Bosch Gregg. On May 30, 1967 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Crown, PA, he married Jacqueline A. Heasley who survives. He was a 1964 graduate of East Forest High School, Marienville, and he attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Lt. John C. Roche Post 212 VFW. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era; while in the military he managed the Small Bore Rifle Team at Fort Hood, TX. Mr. Gregg was adventurous and loved traveling with his wife to see and experience new places, he was an avid hunter for many years who loved being outdoors, he enjoyed wood working and he was also mechanically incl...

Police say a Cheektowaga, New York, woman tried to kill herself Saturday night at the Corydon Hotel. They say the 33-year-old woman tried to commit suicide by consuming an excessive amount of prescription pills. She was taken to Bradford Regional Medical Center for treatment. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is continuing to investigate an oil leak into Willow Creek. The agency was called Tuesday afternoon after someone noticed the oil in the creek in Corydon Township. A DEP respesentative returned to the area today. DEP spokeswoman Freda Tarbell says about 75 gallons of oil leaked into the stream. She says the leak did not reach Willow Bay, and workers took steps to make sure it didn’t get there by placing absorbent material about a half mile from the mouth of the bay. Tarbell said they believe the source of the leak is a sales line owned by EnerVest of Houston, Texas, but they have not confirmed that yet.

The Bradford Ranger District of the Allegheny National Forest (ANF) is evaluating a request from U.S. Energy Development Corporation for a right of way for a natural gas pipeline. This pipeline would gather natural gas from proposed wells on Warrant 3713 to an existing pipeline on Warrant 4872 in McKean County, Corydon Township. A special use authorization has been requested because 2,825 ft. of the proposed pipeline would be installed across the ANF surface in Warrant 3719 where U.S. Energy does not have rights to subsurface resources. Approximately 1,900 ft. of the proposed pipeline would run along an existing road (Forest Road 272) and approximately 900 ft. would extend from the road to the boundary between Warrants 3713 and 3719. U.S. Energy has requested a 25 ft. wide right of way for construction and maintenance of the pipeline, which would encumber approximately 1.62 acres of Forest Service land. The proposed construction would occur in Management Area 3.0, which allows special ...

A Bradford man is dead following a motorcycle accident Tuesday on West Washington Street in Corydon Township. State Police say 41 year-old Robert Cox lost control of his bike on a curve, went off the road and hit an embankment. Cox was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a helmet.

A Corydon Township man was hurt in an accident Wednesday afternoon on West Washington Street near the Marilla Reservoir. Police say a vehicle driven by 80-year-old James Smith went out of control on the snowy road, crossed the road and rolled onto its side. Personnel from the Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department extricated Smith through the windshield of the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to BRMC for treatment of neck and back pain. Traffic was blocked for about half an hour. No charges have been filed.

A Bradford man is in jail for threatening to kill a woman. 45-year-old Ace Ferry is accused of making the threats Friday night at a home in Corydon Township, according to papers filed in District Judge Rich Luther’s office. Ferry also allegedly hit the woman in the face and grab her by the neck. He’s charged with terrorisitc threats, simple assault and harassment. His bail is set at $25,000.

Bradford Township firefighters responded to a blaze in a garage at 219 Rutherford Run this afternoon. Although the garage was 15 feet from the house, the fire did extend to the house, where it damaged one room, the attic and part of the exterior, according to Fire Chief Dan Burkhouse. He said the garage and its contents were a total loss. Firefighters were called out at 12:13 p.m. and returned to the station at 4 p.m. 26 men and three engines from Bradford Township responded, along with a tanker and three men from Lewis Run. By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director No people were hurt but one kitten died, one apartment building is destroyed and two more are damaged as a result of two fires at about the same time in one Congress Street neighborhood this morning. "It was kind of a nightmare," says Bradford City Fire Department Lt. Chris Angell. They got the first call for a fire at 42 Elm Street at just before 7 a.m., and Angell says they called a second alarm before they even got to the scene because he could see the smoke. "The entire rear of the house was engulfed … there was smoke coming from every window," he said. They weren't able to save that building but were able to save the building "two feet away." "With the help of Bradford Township, 87 (Congress Street) had some minor damage, but we basically saved it," Angell said.
