The Allegany man who pleaded guilty to shooting and killing an Olean man in August will be sentenced today in Cattaraugus County Court. 33-year-old Martez Johnson admitted to shooting 27-year-old James Williams in the chest and chin with a sawed-off shotgun. Johnson faces up to 22 years in prison.

The Allegany man accused of killing an Olean man in August has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. 33-year-old Martez Johnson entered the plea on Monday, according to a fax sent to WESB and The HERO by the Cattaraugus County District Attorney's Office. Johnson shot 27-year-old James Williams on August 3 in Williams’ Olean apartment. The case of an Allegany man accused of shooting an Olean man to death is headed to a Cattaraugus County grand jury. 33-year-old Martez Johnson is accused of shooting 27-year-old James Williams to death at a home in Olean earlier this month. Johnson's girlfriend testified during a hearing that she dropped him off at the scene of the murder. She says the couple later poured gasoline on a pile of clothes and burned them. She eventually led police to the gun and burned clothes. The grand jury is expected to convene early next month.

An Allegany man is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 27-year-old James Williams of Olean early Tuesday morning. 33-year-old Martez Johnson was arrested Tuesday on a parole violation, and was charged Wednesday in connection to the murder. He’s in Cattaraugus County Jail without bail. He’s scheduled to be in Olean City Court August 10. Williams was found dead in a South Second Street home just before 1 a.m. Tuesday after police received reports of gunshots. A state police dive team recovered a long gun from the Allegheny River that they believe is the murder weapon. The man who jumped out a second floor window the morning of the shooting has been identified as Eric Blair of Buffalo. He was visiting Williams at the time of the shooting. Blair is being treated at ECMC for injuries related to the jump.
