Hawbaker Fined for Air Quality Violations

WILLIAMSPORT -- The Department of Environmental Protection has fined Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of Bellefonte, Centre County, $16,500 for air quality violations documented in October 2011 at its quarry in Burlington Township, Bradford County. “Twice last October, following numerous complaints from area residents, our inspectors found dust coming from operations at the site and from dirt that had been dragged onto Route 6 by quarry traffic,” DEP North-central Regional Director Nels Taber said. DEP inspectors also discovered that a water spray system was not being used while the crusher was in operation, which further contributed to the amount of dust leaving the site. The department sent a notice of violation to the company that required Hawbaker to make the necessary changes to keep dust from escaping the property. Break-In at Glenn O. Hawbaker

Someone broke into a Glenn O. Hawbaker office trailer in Turtlepoint sometime between 5 o’clock Thursday afternoon and 6 o’clock this morning. State police say the person or people kicked in the door and, once inside, rummaged through desk drawers before fleeing the scene.

Schedule Change for Ormsby Paving

Smethport – Wet weather has changed PennDOT’s paving schedule for Route 3011(Bridge Street) near the village of Ormsby, McKean County. Work will now begin on Monday and run through Friday. PennDOT had previously expected work to run Saturday through Tuesday. Crews will begin paving operations at 7 a.m. Monday, with roadwork scheduled through Friday. Area drivers should expect travel delays. The work zone on Route 3011 stretches from Ormsby, south for 2 ½ miles in Keating Township. Drivers in the area should expect short travel delays as roadway flaggers enforce an alternating traffic pattern during daylight hours. Glenn O. Break-In at Glenn O. Hawbaker

Someone broke into a Glenn O. Hawbaker Scale House in Turtlepoint and stole some money. State Police say someone pried open a door sometime between 5 o’clock Thursday afternoon and 5:50 this morning. Police did not say how much money was taken. They are continuing their investigation.

Detour Near Ormsby Next Week

Smethport – Starting Monday, Aug. 29, McKean County drivers will encounter road crews along Route 3011 near the village of Ormsby. Crews will be performing drainage work from Ormsby south for 2 ½ miles in Keating Township. Flaggers will be on site to enforce an alternating traffic pattern and short travel delays can be expected. A detour will go into effect on Wednesday, Aug. 31, so that milling and paving work can take place. Southbound drivers will follow Route 59 east and Route 6 south before returning to Route 3011. Northbound drivers will follow Route 6 north and Route 59 west before returning to Route 3011. Signs will be in place to assist drivers on the detour. Bridge Painting on Saturday, Sunday

Work is winding down on PennDOT’s Route 219/Bradford Bypass project in McKean County. PennDOT issues the following travel update. All work is weather and schedule dependent. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $28 million job. · Bridge painting has been re-scheduled on Bolivar Drive/State Route 346 for Saturday, October 9 and Sunday, October 10. State Route 346 westbound will be closed under Route 219. Traffic is to follow the posted detour using East Main Street to Kendall Avenue to Seaward Avenue and back to Bolivar Drive. State Route 346/Bolivar Drive westbound will be opened by 7am Monday, Oct. 11. · A new traffic pattern is expected the week of Oct. 18. Route 219 northbound traffic will be placed back on the newly constructed northbound travel lane and all ramps will be open. · Work on the Route 219 southbound ON-ramp at Elm Street continues. Work is winding down on PennDOT’s Route 219/Bradford Bypass project in McKean County. PennDOT issues the following travel update for the week of Sept. 20. All work is weather and schedule dependent. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $28 million job. · Work on the Route 219 southbound ON-ramp at Elm Street continues. Traffic is using the existing shoulder. Contractor crew will be working close to the roadway placing bituminous pavement for a new barrier wall. Expect delays during work hours. · Northbound traffic is sharing a lane with southbound traffic, separated by temporary concrete barrier from Mill Street to north of Hillside Drive. · Northbound ramps at Foster Brook Interchange are closed. Route 219 Work Starts Up Again

Construction season on the Route 219 Bradford Bypass project has started. Crews have been setting traffic control signs for the project and, by mid-week, southbound and northbound lanes from Elm Street to Hillside Drive in New York will be restricted to one lane. The passing lanes will be closed for crossover construction, but access on or off Route 219 will not be affected at this time. Glenn O. Hawbaker is the contractor on this $28 million project.
