Review: Dark Sky by C.J. Box

Image
Game Warden Joe Pickett is tasked with guiding social media mogul Steve-2 Price on an elk hunting trip in the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming. Little do they know, Steve-2 is being hunted even before the trip begins. Joe and Steve are left with no way to communicate with the world off the mountain, with no weapons, transportation, food, shelter, or anything they brought with them for the trip. As they are being tracked by the three men who believe Steve-2 has done their family wrong, they must also fight the weather, the terrain, and even a couple of wolverines.  While all of this is going on, Joe's friend (and his oldest daughter's boss) Nate Romanowski is trying to find out who is poaching falcons, and why.  Dark Sky will remind you of all the reasons you love Joe Pickett, and make you love him even more. I'll be interested to find out if the ending of the book is leading to a stand alone Nate Romanowski book. I'd love that. Interview with C.J. Box coming soon.

Weekend Reading List:

I'm caught up with my other books for interviews so I get to go back to Dark Sky & Joe Pickett. I'm always excited to speak with C.J. but more so this year. His publicist says it's OK to ask about Big Sky and I do have a few questions about that. But I also want to know if its success means the powers-that-be are more receptive to getting a Joe Pickett series on the air. I hope so! If I finish this I'll start:  Review/interview coming soon for:

High Praise Indeed

I'll be asking CJ Box about this when I interview him next month about the next Joe Pickett novel, Dark Sky. (Big Sky was included in the suggested questions from the publisher. Some day I'll post about "suggested questions from the publisher," which directly affects how a gal from a small radio station in rural PA can get interviews with CJ Box and other best sellers. And probably not in the way you think.)

A C.J. Box Kinda Day

My favorite thing about my job is getting to read books before they're released. Tonight I get to start #DarkSky -- the new Joe Pickett novel! #NetGalley And #BigSky is on tonight. It's a @CJBoxauthor kinda day.

When you get to #19 in a series you wonder if the author can keep it fresh. I'm happy to say C.J. Box @CJBoxauthor has done more than keep it fresh. This may be the best Joe Pickett novel yet -- and I'm only about halfway finished. I wish I could read faster!
