An Olean man has pleaded guilty to failure to register with the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Darryl Myers did not register between July 16 and August 1 of last year. A man charged with attempted murder for throwing gasoline in the faces of two people in an attempt to set them on fire has pleaded not guilty. 41-year-old Chris Sherlock of Olean allegedly threw the gasoline at the people in the early morning hours of September 5. He was in violation of an order of protection during the alleged incident. Sherlock is charged with two counts each of attempted murder attempted assault as well as reckless endangerment, criminal contempt, stalking and menacing. The case has been adjourned for motions. Police picked up a prowler at the Delevan Garden Apartments earlier this month. Troopers say they got a call about a man trying to break into one of the apartments and subsequently arrested 31-year-old Jacob Offhaus of Delevan for burglary and criminal mischief. An 8-year-old Cattaraugus County boy is being treated for a gunshot wound after a gun went off while he was playing with his brothers this morning. Police say the incident happened on West Road in Leon while the parents of the boys were not home. The 8-year-old was hit by a shot from a .22 caliber gun. He is in stable condition at Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo. Police didn’t say how old the other boys are. All the weapons have been taken out of the home while police investigate. Two more Cattaraugus County men are accused of stealing from a railroad. 57-year-old Keith Smith and 51-year-old Douglas Smith, both of South Dayton, are charged with petit larceny and trespass for allegedly taking railroad spikes from the New York and Lake Erie Railroad in the Village of South Dayton. They are scheduled to appear in South Dayton Court on Monday. Late last month two Franklinville men were charged for stealing from the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad. 26-year-old Casey Marino and 27-year-old Lucas Marino are scheduled to appear in Town of Hinsdale Court today. A Leon, New York, teenager is charged with burglary for an alleged incident Wednesday morning in Leon. 18-year-old Mahlon Gingrich allegedly broke into the Adams Lumber Mill at 8:30 a.m. and stole – five cans of pop. He is also charged with petit larceny. He was sent to Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Town of Leon Court. A Franklinville, New York, man accused of raping a relative who is younger than 15 has pleaded not guilty. 28-year-old Mark Utley was indicted by a grand jury on three counts of rape, three counts of incest and endangering the welfare of a child. The indictment charged that on August 29, 2011, and during September of last year in the Village of South Dayton, Utley had sex with the child he knew was related to him. A Salamanca man is in jail on drug charges following a lengthy investigation by the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force. 33-year-old Thomas Doner is charged with criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance. In another case, Doner pleaded not guilty Monday in Cattaraugus County Court to selling morphine on May 24 in Salamanca. That case has been adjourned for motions. He is jailed without bail. ~~~ A Fredonia man is accused of stealing prescription medication from a Portland resident. State police say 25-year-old Charles Karlstrom Jr. took several hydrocodone pills without the owner’s permission. Karlstrom is scheduled to appear in Town of Portland Court on March 5. ~~~ An Elma, New York, man is facing drug charges following a traffic stop in Chautauqua County. State police stopped 20-year-old Raymond Skibicki on routes 20 and 60 in the Town of Pomfret for having an inadequate stop lamp and inadequate exhaust and, during the stop, smelled marijuana in the ve...

An Allegany man is charged with criminal possession of a weapon following an incident earlier this month in the Town of Allegany. 23-year-old Zachary Bedard is also charged with obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest. Sheriff’s deputies did not provide further information on the incident. Bedard was arraigned, and then sent to Cattaraugus County Jail on $2,500 bail. A Buffalo man who tried to swallow marijuana during a traffic stop in Olean last March has pleaded guilty. Police say they stopped 34-year-old Christopher Booker for a traffic violation and learned that he swallowed an unknown quantity of marijuana. He was taken to Olean General Hospital for observation, and later charged with tampering with physical evidence, a misdemeanor. Police stopped him for not using a turn signal. An Allegany man has been indicted for raping a child. Back in August 40-year-old Timothy Retchless was charged for having sex with a 16-year-old in a vehicle parked in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. The Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office says that between November of 2009 and December of 2010, in Olean, Retchless also had sex with a minor and is facing four counts of rape. He also allegedly sent the child indecent material, and is facing 12 counts of disseminating indecent material to minors. He is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. A customer and an employee of the Allegany Wal-Mart are accused of theft in separate incidents. State troopers say 40-year-old Jeramy Howard of Portville had been stealing laptops, stereo equipment and TVs over a seven-day period. The value of the stolen items is more than $4,000. He’s charged with nine counts of petit larceny and is jailed on $1,000 bail. 32-year-old Amber Vincent of Olean is accused of stealing $400 from a cash register she was running at the store. The money was then transferred to a Wal-Mart debit card she allegedly took and used. She was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Town of Allegany Court Monday.
