Route 219 Lane Restrictions Lifted

If you’ve been avoiding the Route 219 Bradford Bypass because of all the restrictions – you can stop avoiding it. Lane restrictions were removed on Thursday, and access at Hillside Drive is open, too.

Work is winding down on PennDOT’s Route 219/Bradford Bypass project in McKean County. PennDOT issues the following travel update for the week of Nov. 1. All work is weather and schedule dependent. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $28 million job. · Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving and stopped vehicles throughout the entire work zone. · The contractor will be working close to the travel lanes, building an emergency crossover. Watch for workers and equipment being close to the travel lanes. · TRAFFIC ALERT: The southbound and northbound lanes of Route 219 from Elm Street to Hillside Drive in New York State will be restricted to one lane in each direction. State Route 346 westbound will be closed under Route 219. Traffic is to follow the posted detour using East Main Street to Kendall Avenue to Seaward Avenue and back to Bolivar Drive. State Route 346/Bolivar Drive westbound will be opened by 7am Monday, Oct. 11. · A new traffic pattern is expected the week of Oct. 18. Route 219 Bridge Painting Next Weekend

PennDOT has scheduled painting for the Bolivar Drive bridge early next month. The painting will be Saturday, October 2, and Sunday, October 3. Bolivar Drive under Route 219 will be closed on those days. Motorists will follow the posted detour using East Main Street, Kendall Avenue and Seaward Avenue.

Johnsonburg Bypass to Open Tuesday

The new Route 219/Johnsonburg Bypass will be fully open to both directions of traffic (northbound and southbound) on Tuesday, September 21. Traffic signals at Fairview Avenue and Grant Street will be fully operational. The contractor on the $32 million project is Swank and Associated Companies.

Bradford, J-Burg Bypass Updates

Kendall Avenue will be paved on Tuesday as part of the Route 219/Bradford Bypass project. Crews will also continue trucking in material for paving and will be pulling into the closed “dead lane” from the northbound “live lane.” Traffic may be slow moving on Route 219 as this work takes place. In Johnsonburg, PennDOT will temporarily open the new Route 219 alignment Saturday afternoon during the borough’s Bicentennial Parade. The road will be opened from 3 to 6 p.m. to allow traffic to travel around Johnsonburg during the parade. Local police will be controlling traffic. Johnsonburg’s Bicentennial celebration gets underway Friday evening. Besides the parade it includes a carnival, live entertainment, a car show, a dice run and vendor booths. The parade will feature more than 80 units including marching bands from Johnsonburg, Smethport, Kane, Port Allegany, St. Marys, Elk Catholic, Ridgway, DuBois, Brockway, Clearfield, Cameron County, and Marion Center high schools. http://johnsonburg2...

Paving Work to Start Monday on Route 219
From Lewis Run to Custer City

Drivers in McKean County will encounter a lane restriction beginning Monday, August 9 on Route 219 between the villages of Lewis Run and Custer City. The restriction is necessary for paving to begin across a three-mile section of Route 219 in this area. Motorists should expect traffic delays and be alert for flaggers and stopped or slow-moving traffic. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor on the $2.9 million project. Lane restrictions are expected to be lifted by Friday, August 20. To date, other project work has included guide rail upgrades, drainage, and shoulder upgrades. 'Bootjack' Detour to be in Place Longer

Due to weather and schedule changes, a detour around Route 219 “Bootjack” roadwork near Ridgway will remain in place into July. The detour moves northbound traffic down the “truck bypass” to Route 120 and back to Route 219. Signs are in place directing motorists through the detour. The detour is now expected to be in place until July 9, about a week later than originally planned. Southbound traffic will continue to follow the normal route (219). The current phase of the project stretches northbound from the truck bypass to the intersection of Main and Depot Streets in Ridgway. Get used to the traffic delays on Bolivar Drive and East Main Street. PennDOT says work will continue next week on Bolivar Drive with flaggers present and drivers should expect alternating traffic patterns and travel-time delays.
