Parking Takes Center Stage at Council Meeting

Parking issues took center stage during Tuesday’s Bradford City Council meeting, and misbehavior on Main Street played a part in the discussion, too. Business owner Steve Cavallaro, who presented council with a petition holding 1,876 signatures of people who would like to see a change in the parking meter situation in Downtown Bradford, said he isn’t against tickets, but he doesn’t want the metered parking so strictly enforced that it discourages people from shopping downtown. There was also discussion on whether parking enforcement officer Karen Disney is too enthusiastic in the writing of tickets. Kathy Obermyer, on the other hand, lauded Disney’s enthusiasm and jokingly said maybe council could put that enthusiasm to use to help alleviate the problem of misbehavior on Main Street. Downtown Business Owners Bring
Frustration to City Council

Steve Cavallaro made that statement to Bradford City Council on behalf of himself and several other downtown business owners who are fed up with loitering, bad language, bicycle and skateboard riding on sidewalks, and other types of bad behavior. Cavallaro of Cavallaro Paint and Decorating; Kathy Obermeyer of Real Living Avista Properties; Todd Hennard, owner of the Main Street Mercantile and other buildings; and Nancy Graham, owner of The Tin Ceiling Gift Shoppe, presented council with a proposal that they hope would transfer control back to the business owners and their customers. “We don’t even feel like we have any control over what’s going on downtown, yet we’re the ones paying the lion’s share …” he said, adding that they would like to see more police foot patrols, and enforce the ordinances that are already in the books. “It’s getting ridiculous with kids...

Last Market of the Season on Saturday

The last Bradford Farmer’s Market of the season will be held on Saturday, October 9th from 8 a.m. to Noon. The event is coordinated by the Downtown Bradford Business District Authority, in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Center for Rural Health and is sponsored by Real Living Avista Properties. The location for the Farmer’s Market is the Old City Hall parking lot located on Boylston Street. Naturally grown fresh produce from Canticle Farms in Allegany, NY will be available at each market. Additional items for sale include fruits, vegetables, herbs, plants, fresh baked breads and baked goods, canned goods, jams, pies, sugar-free pies, honey and honey products. New vendors are invited to join the group. Vendor set up will be from 7 – 7:45 a.m. Reservations are not required. For more information contact the Main Street Manager at 598-3865.

Farmer's Market in Bradford Saturday

The Bradford Farmer’s Market will be held on Saturday, July 24 from 8 a.m. to Noon and will run the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month through October 9. The event is coordinated by the Downtown Bradford Business District Authority, in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Center for Rural Health and is sponsored by Avista Realty. The location for the Farmer’s Market is the Old City Hall parking lot located on Boylston Street. Naturally grown fresh produce from Canticle Farms in Allegany, NY will be available at each market. Additional items for sale include blueberries, vegetables, shrubs, herbs, plants, fresh baked breads and baked goods, canned goods, jams, pies, sugar-free pies, baled hay, honey, honey products, hand made jewelry, cookbooks and art work.
