The infamous dusty trout that has been mounted on a wall at the Westline Inn for more than 60 years has been stolen. The mounted fish was taken from the restaurant between midnight and 1 a.m. Sunday. A man accused of driving his motorcycle under the influence in a crash that killed his wife has waived his preliminary hearing. 50-year-old Raymond Maedl Jr. of Cuba, New York, is charged with homicide by vehicle and homicide by vehicle while under the influence of alcohol in connection to the April 27 crash that killed 50-year-old Jeanie Maedl. The crash happened on Westline Road when Maedl was rounding a curve and hit a guiderail. His wife was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene. Maedl is free on $50,000 bail. A Bradford man is accused of raping a woman late Sunday night in Westline. 25-year-old Matthew Orris is described in court papers as the on-again off-again boyfriend of the victim. She says she contacted him at about 10 o’clock Sunday asked for a ride home from her friend’s camp. She says they had to take back roads because the main road was closed because of the fatal accident investigation. She says during the drive Orris was irritated with her because she hadn’t texted him since Wednesday. At one point he stopped the pickup truck, she got out and started to walk away, but he pulled her back to the truck and raped her. Orris told police the sex was consensual. Police say a medical exam and evidence from the truck are consistent with the victim’s statement. Orris is charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with forcible compulsion and indecent assault. He’s in McKean County Jail on $50,000 bail. A Cuba, New York, woman is dead following a motorcycle crash on Westline Road Sunday afternoon, and her husband is in jail on a DUI charge. Police say the motorcycle operated by 50-year-old Raymond Maedl Jr. went out of control while rounding a curve and hit a guide rail. 50-year-old Jeanie Maedl was thrown from the bike, and into the guide rail. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Raymond Maedl was arraigned early this morning on charges of DUI, disregarding a traffic lane and careless driving. His bail is $50,000. A Penn State student is dead and four other students from the university were hurt when an SUV crashed into a tree on Route 219 near Westline Friday night. Police say an SUV driven by 20 year-old Jonathan Edwards of Dumfries, Virginia, went out of control on the ice -covered road, traveled down an embankment, rolled over and hit the tree. A passenger, 18-year-old Courtney O'Bryan of Huntington, New York, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Three others, 18-year-old Jenna Pardhan, 19-year-old Lauren Bronstein and Christopher Toner suffered moderate injuries. Edwards suffered minor injuries. Allegheny National Forest officials have issued an update on the closing of a section of the Allegheny Snowmobile Loop. The section between Westline and The Willows restaurant is closed due to a right-of-way issue with a private landowner. The issue has not been resolved so that section of the trail will remain closed for the rest of the winter season. Bradford District Ranger Tony Scarndina says the forest service is currently working with the snowmobile community and other partners to find a solution, and he is optimistic that the issue will be resolved for next year’s snowmobile season.

State police are looking for the person who punctured a tire on Martin Jacobs’ SUV while it was parked in the Camp Run area of Westline on Sunday afternoon. The person is 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall and weights about 220 pounds. He was white hair, a white beard and false teeth. He was driving on red Chevrolet Camaro with a Steelers plate on the front. Someone shot Brenda Walker’s mailbox on Wilcox Clermont Road at about 11:30 Saturday night. Damage is estimated at $40. Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call Kane-based state police at 778-5555.
