No Decision Announced Concerning
Lady Owls Basketball Coach

By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director The Bradford Area School Board on Monday approved a budget and a comprehensive plan for the high school for the next academic year, but did not take any action regarding the Lady Owls basketball coach. Before the second public comment portion of the monthly meeting superintendent Katy Pude acknowledged the people in the audience who were “looking for an explanation” as to why Ann Nuzzo was not going to be recommended to continue coaching the girls’ basketball team for the 2013-14 season. She said it is a personnel issue that she can’t discuss in public, but she did talk about “what did not lead to this decision.” “The truth is there were several parent complaints during basketball season and these were dealt with individually and at that time,” Pude said. “There has not been a recent outcry by any of these parents asking for the coach’s dismissal.” She apologized to any parents or students who were hurt by those rumors. Memorial to Jo Ann Walter

Mike Walter sits on a bench in front of Futures Rehabilitation Center that was dedicated today to the memory of his mother, Jo Ann Walter, a longtime Futures supporter. The bench is on the walkway between the parking lot and the building. Jo Ann Walter died in June after a battle with cancer.

Proposal for New Fitness Center

By ANNE HOLLIDAY WESB/WBRR News Director Federal stimulus money may mean a new fitness center for the Bradford Area School District. School District Superintendent Sandra Romanowski explained during Monday's school board meeting that $581,500 in stimulus money is proposed for modernization (construction projects). The shifting of other funding will save the district $382,380 to support capital projects. Romanowski said the stimulus money "allows us do to many creative things within school district and to assist us with our budget." She said one of the most exciting things is taking four teachers – one from each building – to become a math coach. The coaches would work with Romanowski and the Intermediate Unit on developing a curriculum for pre-K through grade 12 that would address and better look at accountability where math is concerned in the district. Walter is Athletic Director of Year

Bradford High Athletic Director Tim Walter has been named the 2009 Pennsylvania Region III Athletic Director of the Year. Walter is on the PIAA swimming steering committee and is a representative of District 9 on the executive council of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association. THE PSADA will recognize Walter during its annual awards banquet March 26 in Hershey.

Puglio is New Head Football Coach

Following Monday night's Bradford Area School Board meeting, Bradford High Athletic Dirctor Tim Walter congratulates Jeff Puglio on his his unanimous appointment as new Bradford Owls Head Varsity Football Coach. Director of Human Resources Sam Johnson explained that the district advertised locally, and statewide, for the position. A committee including Johnson, Walter, BAHS Principal Ken Coffman and two board members reviewed the applications. Puglio also met with school superintendent Sandra Romanowski for her approval before his name was brought before the board. When addressing the board, Puglio said he plans to "be the face of the program, not just with the high school teams, but throughout the entire community."
