Cash, Checks Stolen from American Legion

More than $3,000 in cash and checks has been stolen from the American Legion in Sugar Grove. Police say someone broke a window in the back of the building between 1:30 and 1:50 Sunday morning. Surveillance video shows that the person made his way to the safe, where he used a tool to cut the hinges off, grabbed the cash bags that were inside and then left through the window he had broken to get in. The suspect was wearing a Halloween-like mask and hood covering his or her face, and was carrying a red case. Police: Woman Had 2 Babies in Car
During 1 1/2-Mile Pursuit

A woman who had two babies in her car while running from police is now in Warren County Jail. Police say they were trying to stop 23-year-old Kimberly Collingwood of Sugar Grove Sunday afternoon in Clarendon for several traffic violations. She pulled over to the side of the road but, after police stopped, she pulled away and took them on a 1 ½ mile chase. She hit a parked vehicle during the chase. Collingwood is charged with fleeing and eluding, hit and run and endangering the welfare of children. Her bail is set at $20,000. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Sugar Grove Man Reported Missing

UPDATE: Police say Edmisten has been found alive and well. A missing person report has been issued for a Warren County man. Police say 48-year-old Leonard Eugene Edmisten of Sugar Grove was last seen on May 18, and the last anyone heard from him was by way of text message on May 21. His truck was found in Erie County. Anyone with information regarding Edmisten’s whereabouts is asked to contact Warren-based state police. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Fatal Crash in Warren County

A Youngsville man is dead following a head-on collision this morning on Route 27 in Sugar Grove Township. Police say 26-year-old Melvin Murvine was traveling north at 8:35 a.m. and, while cresting a hill, his pickup truck went into the southbound lane and hit a Pepsi truck head-on. Murvine was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Pepsi truck, 48-year-old Scott Williams of Sugar Grove, complained of back pain and was taken to Warren General Hospital, where he was treated and released. Nursing Supervisor Charged with Forgery

A nursing supervisor at a health care center in Chautauqua County is accused of stealing prescription pad pages. Sheriff’s deputies say 41-year-old Dawn Smith of Sugar Grove, PA, stole and forged the pages belonging to a health care provider at Heritage Green Health Care Center in the Town of Ellery. They say after they identified Smith as the suspect she cooperated and turned herself in. She’s free on bail pending further court proceedings. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Fatal Crash in Sugar Grove

One person is dead following a crash in Sugar Grove early this morning. State police say the crash happened at just before 2 a.m. when the female driver of a Ford Fusion failed to negotiate a curve and the car went off the road and hit a pine tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Her two female passengers were taken to WCA Hospital in Jamestown for treatment of unspecified injuries. Police have not released the victims' names yet. Seven Charged in Connection to
Party Where Teenager Died

Seven people have been charged in connection to the death of a 17-year-old boy who died at party back in September in Sugar Grove Township. 23-year-old Brandy Lynn Piazza and 21-year-old Adam Perrin, both of Sugar Grove, are charged with endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors. 20-year-old Shane Rodgers of Bear Lake and 19-year-old Daniel Harkins of Sugar Grove are charged with endangering the welfare children, corruption of minors and underage drinking. A 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy are each charged with underage drinking. A 17-year-old girl is charged with underage drinking and furnishing alcohol to minors. Police say drugs were also used at the party.

Missing Sugar Grove Girl Found

A Sugar Grove girl who was reported missing on August 7 has been found in the Oil City area. In a fax sent to WESB and The HERO, state police say 17-year-old Tina Michelle Allen was living on an island in the Allegheny River. Troopers in Franklin took her back home to Warren County Wednesday.

Mower to be Used for Benefit is Stolen

Someone stole a John Deere riding lawn mower that was supposed to be raffled off Sunday during a benefit for a man who’s battling cancer. State police in Warren say the mower, which was donated by Zahm and Matson of Falconer, was stolen from a parking lot in Sugar Grove Tuesday or Wednesday. The benefit is for Mike Chapman of Warren, who is recovering from a surgery that removed a cancerous tumor from the base of his spine and a rare combination of three types of testicular cancer. The benefit is from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Sugar Grove AmVets. The John Deere was supposed to be among several vehicles donated by local dealerships, all of which will be auctioned off during the spaghetti dinner benefit.
