Controversy Over Parkway Field

The controversy over whether a multi-use field should be put in at Parkway Field continues. Today on Sports Forum, Bradford Area School Board President Tim Bean talked about one reason the field could benefit the community. He said he'shoping it makes the district more presentable so when people come into the community, maybe it will sway their decision to come here and work here. One of the arguments against the new field is the one-million-dollar price tag. The district will be using part of a budget surplus to pay for it. The field will be a topic of discussion at Monday's school board meeting.

So, school board president Tim Bean argues that one reason to purchase the new field at the large price tag is that it will improve the image of the community and maybe people that come into the community will have their opinion swayed by its appearance then miraculously "choose to come here and work here."

While this all sounds all fine and dandy, I have but one question: WORK WHERE?

It is common knowledge that Bradford is now, and has been for several years an economically dying community. Not that we do not have good jobs here, it's just that they are not in any great abundance and I wouldn't consider the two or three dollars an hour over minimum wage to be a "good job."

Without any disrespect intended for any of the school board directors, my question remains. WORK WHERE?
Perhaps visitors to the area would be swayed and want to live in Bradford just to gaze upon the aesthetic beauty of the new costly field? I don't know, but either way, what does that accomplish?

Use the surplus either to implement school property tax cuts or improve and expand upon the educational programs being offered by our district. Cut out the nonsense of spending money on this extravagant field!
