Rapp Challenges Forest Plan

The state house has passed a resolution challenging the US Forest Service plans to limit the development of private oil and gas rights on the Allegheny National Forest. State Representative Kathy Rapp says the Forest Service is asserting new and unprecedented authority to control private oil and gas development, as well as restricting producer access to their mineral rights. She says the new forest management plan reverses long-standing forest service practices and rewrites national policy.

Why is the state House wasting taxpayer dollars passing meaningless resolutions regarding non-existent federal regulations?

The Forest Service regulations Rep. Rapp talks about in this press release were rescinded in February by the Forest Service Chief. They were rescinded because the Allegheny Forest Service officials failed to analyze the impact that oil and gas drilling has on air quality and because it did not provide adequate opportunities for public comment.

Rep. Rapp unfortunately seems to be towing the line for the oil and gas industry instead of representing the majority of her constituents who want the Allegheny protected from oil and gas drilling.
